Galina Matsyushyna — Belgian politician of Belarusian origin
During a visit to Brussels, participants of the “Personnel Reserve” campaign met with Galina Matsyushyna, a Belgian politician of Belarusian origin and a former local councillor in Antwerp (2012–2017).
The politician spoke about how local politics functions in Flanders: the system of self-government, local initiatives, and her own experience working in Antwerp.
She also discussed Belarus-related issues from her position, as well as possible ways to address them. In particular, she has cooperated with other politicians in Belgium, including those of Ukrainian origin, in order to highlight the situation of Belarusians in Belgium and raise awareness of Belarus more broadly.
Participants noted her openness and sincere willingness to share her experience. Many emphasised that the insights gained from the Belgian governance model could be adapted to address similar challenges in Belarus. According to participants, the meeting left a positive impression and provided motivation for further personal development aimed at building a better future for Belarus.
